William Belcher Gibbons

Pioneer Company DB | Pedigree | FamilySearch Record

William was 34 years old when he crossed the plains.  His parents crossed 9 years earlier possibly with his brother Thomas.  It appears he only had 3 living brothers although his parents John Aaron and Fanny had many children who died as infants or in early childhood in England.  All of his living brothers also crossed the plains.  William crossed with his wife Mary Wilkes Gibbons who was 44 at the time.  It appears that all of their children (Sophia Mary (10 years old), Laura Caroline (9 years old), Elizabeth Ann (5 years old) and William Alvin (4 years old) also crossed the plains with them in the Thomas E Ricks Company.  They used the Perpetual Emigrating Fund.

There are 2 excerpts from the Ogden Standard Examiner that mention William Gibbons.

The first excerpt talks about a brass band that was organized in England in which William is listed as the first tenor. [link]  The tenor horn (English name) is better know in the USA as the alto horn. [link]

The second excerpt also mentions William as part of this band but gives more history of it in England and some details about the Thomas E Ricks Company.  It appears that they decided as a bank to cross the plains. [link]
